Twomey named dean of Manchester University Gilbert College of Business
Ogden returns to full-time faculty work in the fall
North Manchester, IN (05/18/2022) — Heather Twomey has been named dean of the Gilbert College of Business at Manchester University. Dean Tim Ogden, who was once her teacher, is returning to full-time faculty work.
The change will take effect this fall at the start of the 2022-23 academic year.
Both are Manchester graduates. Twomey received her bachelor's degree in accounting in 1996 and a Master of Accountancy degree in 1997 from Manchester. Ogden received his bachelor's degree in English from Manchester in 1987 and went on to get a Master of Business Administration from Claremont Graduate University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University.
Ogden joined the faculty at Manchester in 1990 and left in 1996 for a short time to practice law with a firm in Indianapolis concentrating in complex business litigation. After returning to Manchester, he practiced law part-time until 2009. His courses include business law, marketing and management. In 2013, the Pendleton, Indiana, resident received the Alumni Honor Award, the highest recognition the Manchester Alumni Association can bestow on a graduate.
Ogden has served in the role of dean since 2015.
"Under his leadership the business programs have continued to thrive amidst the design and construction of the Lockie and Augustus Chinworth Center and the relaunch of the Master of Accountancy program," said Celia Cook-Huffman, vice president for academic affairs.
After graduation, Twomey worked as an auditor for Ernst and Young LLP and spent a significant amount of time working with a Fortune 500 company. She returned to Manchester in 2000. She is a certified public accountant and teaches courses in the areas of financial accounting, auditing and computer applications.
"We have been working on succession planning for the last year, and I am really pleased that Heather has agreed to take on this role. She was a student of mine early in my career, and it was a privilege to be involved in hiring her to join the faculty. It feels as if we've now come full circle for her to become the dean," Ogden said.
Twomey is well-known for her support of students, helping them one-on-one and in small groups on course content, resume preparation, and internship placement.
"Her experience and expertise will bring a new perspective while ensuring continued success," Cook-Huffman said.
In 2020, the Roanoke, Indiana, resident was named the Howard and Myra Brembeck Associate Professor of Business, an endowed chair.
"Both of these individuals help prepare students for life beyond Manchester, and I thank Tim and Heather for their many contributions and forward-thinking approaches that go beyond the classroom," said President Dave McFadden.
