Plymouth's Salazar sets new Manchester record at track season opener
North Manchester, IN (04/03/2023) — ST. LOUIS, Mo. & Decatur, Ill. - The Manchester University track and field teams opened the 2023 outdoor season on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.
On Friday night, a select few Spartans traveled to St. Louis to compete in the prestigious WashU Distance carnival. While in St. Louis, Enrique Salazar (Plymouth, Ind., Plymouth) broke the Manchester school record in the 10,000 meter run, crossing the finish line in third place in a time of 29:28.55. Salazar's time stands as one of the top five times in all of NCAA Division III this spring.
On Saturday afternoon, the bulk of the outdoor track & field teams competed at the Big Blue Alumni Invitational hosted by Millikin University. The Manchester men placed second out of ten teams with 79 team points while the women came home in fourth place with 75.5 team points.
The Black and Gold will return to action on Saturday, April 8. Manchester will host the Manchester Invitational at Spartan Stadium at the North Manchester campus starting at 11 a.m.
Salazar concluded the indoor season with a 13th place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships.
A senior, the Plymouth High School graduate is majoring in criminology at Manchester.
