MU senior appointed to NCAA Board of Governors Student-Athlete Engagement Committee

North Manchester, IN (09/18/2024) — Manchester University senior Arturo Casas of Pendleton, Ind., has been selected to represent the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on the NCAA Board of Governors Student-Athlete Engagement Committee. He is one of only three Division III students in the country who will serve on the Committee.

"This is a tremendous honor and opportunity for Arturo. To be selected by his peers to represent all of Division III student-athletes is not only impressive, but it is also something that I know Arturo will take very seriously," said HCAC Commissioner Jay Jones. "Watching Arturo interact with the student-athletes, coaches and administrators within the HCAC has shown me his level of caring and engagement with college athletes and how it all works. Now he will be able to share that voice with the highest-ranking governance committee in the NCAA. I am really proud of him."

Casas is a senior at Manchester, studying exercise science and Spanish. He is an active member of the baseball team. His term of service on the SAAC began in Jan. 2024. His term on the Board of Governors Student-Athlete Engagement Committee began Aug. 2024.

"This opportunity is very important for me," said Casas. "I am able to represent the Division III SAAC at an association-wide committee in meetings regarding the student-athlete experience and provide feedback to the Board of Governors."

The NCAA's Student-Athlete Engagement Committee was established by the NCAA Board of Governors in April 2017 to facilitate dialogue within the student-athlete community and to provide student input on association-wide issues, policies and key initiatives. The committee is comprised of 11 total members: three student representatives from each of the divisional Student-Athlete Advisory Committees, one Presidential representative from the Board of Governors and one representative from the Division I Council or Division II/Division III Management Councils. The committee primarily reviews and reacts to topics referred by the NCAA Board of Governors and also provides comments to the Board on association-wide areas of interest.
