Manchester University to host district DECA competition

North Manchester, IN (12/03/2024) — For the third consecutive year, Manchester University will host the northern Indiana district Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) competition on Saturday, Dec. 14.

DECA is an international organization that helps young people develop skills in marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, hospitality, sales and business management.

Over 260 area high school students are expected to attend the annual event. The following schools will participate this year:

  • Canterbury High School
  • Concordia Lutheran High School
  • Homestead High School
  • Lakeland High School
  • Mississinewa High School
  • Northside High School

Alumni and faculty from Manchester's Gilbert College of Business will serve as judges for the competition.

"Hosting the district DECA competition on campus is a wonderful opportunity for Manchester University to support the next generation of business leaders," said Mindy Moore, operations and outreach coordinator for the Gilbert College of Business. "This event provides our students and faculty with the chance to directly contribute to the growth and success of young individuals pursuing careers in business. We are proud to be a part of their journey and look forward to another successful event."

Students compete individually and in teams, working through scenarios in their chosen area before presenting to the judges. Those who earn high enough scores at the district level will advance to the state competition in 2025.
