Hundreds compete at Manchester University district DECA competition
North Manchester, IN (01/29/2024) — For the second consecutive year, Manchester University hosted six area high school groups for the northern Indiana district Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) competition on Saturday, Jan. 20.
DECA is an international organization that helps young people develop skills in marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, hospitality, sales and business management.
More than 170 high school students participated in Saturday's event, with 26 Manchester alumni and colleagues serving as judges.
"We are very excited to have hosted the DECA district competition again this year," said Mindy Moore, operations and outreach coordinator for Manchester's Gilbert College of Business. "DECA is a great experience for these high school students and we are grateful for the opportunity to have them on campus for the day."
Students competed individually and in teams, working through scenarios in their chosen area before presenting to the judges.
Students who earned high enough scores at the district level advanced to the state competition, which will be held in Indianapolis March 3-5.
