Homestead sophomore wins symphony competition
Ben Morton will be featured soloist at March concert
North Manchester, Indiana (02/04/2022) —
Ben Morton is one of just two high school division winners in the Manchester Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Concerto Competition.
He is a sophomore at Homestead High School.
Morton will perform Charles-Camille Saint-Saens' "Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Op. 22" as a featured soloist during the symphony's Trailblazers concert.The concert is 3 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at the Honeywell Center in Wabash, Indiana. The concert also showcases "Symphony No. 1 in E minor" by the groundbreaking composer Florence Price. In 1933, she was the first woman of color to have a composition performed by a major symphony in the United States.
The MSO was founded in 1939 through a partnership with the citizens of Wabash County and what was then Manchester College. It continues today as a thriving member of the region's cultural community, dedicated to excellence, education and diversity.
