Carmel student takes fifth place in Spartan Smash esports tourney

North Manchester, IN (12/13/2022) — Clay Stults of Carmel High School took fifth place in the Spartan Smash 2022 at Manchester University.

Stults was among nearly 200 high school players competing at the North Manchester, Indiana, campus.

At the one-day invitational, players compete in a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament for scholarships and bragging rights.

Each of the top eight players are eligible for a $3,000 Esports Scholarship award to attend Manchester. This would be in addition to any other financial aid for which they would otherwise qualify.

More than two dozen high schools were represented at the November tournament.

Manchester's varsity-level Smash team won the Great Lakes championship three times in a row and competed in the 2022 Collegiate Esports Commissioners Cup.

More scholarships are available at Manchester for League of Legends, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros., Fortnite, Overwatch and Valorant. There are currently more than 80 students on the MU esports roster.
